September 2, 1954: "We have heard of people getting stormed-in, hemmed-in and barred-out, but this week we heard of a couple who got themselves moosed-in up there on the West Horse lookout.
It seems that a bull moose in a foul mood, or something came out of the wilderness and decided to keep Mr. and Mrs. Bill Powell locked up in the lookout. Not only that, but they were moosed in for two days.
The old moose camped right at the bottom of the lookout ladder and every time one of the Powells tried to go down, old moose made it plain that he wasn't about to let them.
On the third day, Mr. Moose had apparently decided to leave the kids alone. Bill Powell went down for water, but he had the forethought to take a walkie-talkie with him.
Mrs. Powell remained in the lookout and kept him advised on moose conditions if any. As it turned out, the moose was absent but he hadn't gone, as Bill Powell learned when he started back to the lookout with his bucket of water.
Between him and the creek was the moose and it took some plenty handy foot work for Bill to get back within the safety of the tower without leaving some of his pants on the moose's palms." by Keith Barrette, (The Recorder Herald)
