June 30, 1957: "Boise National Forest officials said Saturday Bernard Eikel, 20, New Braunfels, Tex., a summer forest worker who disappeared late Saturday morning just south of where he had become separated from his companion.
Officials said Eikel was found wandering near the mouth of Groundhog creek where it flows into the north fork of the Payette River 15 or 20 miles southeast of Cascade.
The Silver Creek lookout had reported seeing a fire in the vicinity Friday night and searchers were dispatched to the area immediately.
Officials said Eikel appeared to be in good condition, although tired, despite his two - night ordeal in the rugged mountain area without food.
A search was started for Eikel Thursday night when a companion reported Eikel did not meet him at the appointed time at East Mountain lookout near Cascade. The two had been on a surveying expedition." (Idaho State Journal)
