1930: A Region 5, model 4A ground house constructed.
September 8, 1935: "A new road is being completed up a mountainous backbone called the Trail creek summit, a distance of 25 miles or so from Cape Horn, Idaho. This winding auto route climbs from an altitude of 7000 feet to 9945, or will when it is completed. There is only a half mile of road yet to be built to the lookout station on Pinion peak. On top, the last stretch of four to six miles is a mere shelf chiseled with dynamite from this rugged hog's back." (The Idaho Statesman)
September 21, 2006: "In conjunction with Public Lands Day, the Middle Fork Ranger District is looking for volunteers to help paint and clean up the historic Pinyon Peak Fire Lookout, located west of the Loon Creek Guard Station. Volunteers can ride to the lookout in a Forest Service vehicle the morning of September 30 or camp free at the Loon Creek Guard Station Friday and Saturday nights." (Recorder Herald)
August 4, 2012: The lookout was evacuated by the advancement of the Halstead fire.
