1915: "A new lookout was established in Sec. 36, Twp. 40 N. R. 3 E. and about an acre and a half of ground was cleared of timber in order to increase the range of vision and general efficiency of this station. A lookout platform was built about 80 feet above the level of the ground." (Potlatch Timber Protective Association Annual Report - 1915)
1915: "The telephone line from Elk Butte to Gold Creek Cabin should be extended next year to the lookout in Sec. 36, Twp. 40 N. R. 3 E., a distance of 3 1/2 miles." (Potlatch Timber Protective Association Annual Report - 1915)
May 23, 1919: "Mrs. Ben Thomas, whose husband is in the forest service, in charge of Gold Hill Lookout in the Potlatch country, were arrivals at the county seat last Saturday to visit at the home of her brother." (Clearwater Republican) (May be wrong location)
