September 6, 1942: "The John A. Beckwith family has gone all out to help the U.S. forest service solve its labor problem. Mrs. Beckwith possibly is the first woman to work as a regular forest lookout in the northwest.
She, with her son, Bobby, 4, to keep her company, is stationed on lonely Baldy mountain in the remote headwaters of the Palouse river.
Beckwith, an English instructor at the University of Idaho, is summering in another lookout station 25 miles away." (The Post-Register)
