September 1, 1927: "Lightning bolts during the storm gave lookouts in the district scares and thrills. The Baldy lookout, Clarence Sperling, reported to the association that one bolt struck within 35 feet of the lookout house, while he counted 10 bolts which struck on the mountain nearby."
