September 21, 1916: "Billie Hartman the lookout on Freeman's Peak came down to the station a few days ago. He says that four inches of snow fell an the peak on August 20 and that icicles were hanging from his tent and that it has been winter all summer up there." (Idaho County Free Press)
1921: A log cabin was built near water, the alidade was placed on the peak.
1923: The cabin was moved to the peak and a cupola added.
1926: Log cabin with cupola built atop South point. (Kresek)

1957: The administration of the site was transferred from the Bitterroot National Forest to the Nez Perce National Forest.
