August 1, 1919: "With the intention of taking up telephone engineer work in the forests of this district, R.B. Adams, telephone engineer of the forest service, has arrived in Ogden and during the next few days will be actively engaged in the proper installation of telephone lines throughout the forests of this district.
Mr. Adams has recently completed installing a wireless telephone system in the Montana forests which is said to have proved efficient in aiding fire control. Two wireless sets have thus been installed in forests of the United States, it is said, one at Lolo Hot Springs, a ranger station, and the other at Beaver Ridge, a lookout station in Idaho. Twelve miles air route separates the two phones.
Present plans are to the effect that phones of this sort will be installed in district next spring." (Ogden Examiner)
August 15, 1919: "Wireless telephone reporting of a forest fire was invoked for what was said to be the first time in history today when lookouts in the Powell district, situated at Beaver Ridge notified the forest ranger at Lolo Hot Springs of a blaze at Beaver Ridge by means of this instrument."
