June 25, 1915: "Stites Enterprise: It is reported that a bear recently entered the government rangers' cabin at Elk Summit and destroyed all of the provisions which were stored there for the use of the forest rangers. Elk Summit is a station near Lochsa, about 80 miles in the interior of the reserve and such little excitements as these are the chief diversion of the boys who watch out forest reserves."
