1928: Tower erected. (Clearwater TPA Annual Report, 1947)
1946: "Two new 75 foot steel towers were secured from War Assets Administration. These two towers will probably be erected at Whiskey Butte and Benton Butte during the next year or two. The towers on these two points are inadequate and in a bad state of repair. They were originally built in 1931 and the upright poles must soon be replaced. The two steel steel towers are stored at Headquarters and only the difficulty of getting skilled labor prevented their being erected this year." (Clearwater TPA Annual Report, 1946)
1947: "Two of the Association's oldest wooden lookouts were replaced by modern steel towers. The steel was secured from war surplus. The two towers replaced were Whiskey Butte tower built in 1931, and Benton Butte tower built in 1928. Both of these old structures were very unsafe. The new steel towers are seventy-five feet in height and have concrete foundations. They are very durable and should last many generations. A small amount of improvement work remains to be done to make them safer to climb by older persons. Otherwise, they are fine structures and should give good service for a long time with practically no maintenance cost." (Clearwater TPA Annual Report, 1947)
