1938: An L-4 cab erected atop a 20-foot high round native timber tower.
June 21, 1963: "Bad Luck: Mike Chaffin of Hamilton. Chaffin graduated from Hamilton High School this spring, where he was active in football and track." (Ravalli Republic)
July 3, 1969: "Norman Hall, a forestry student at the University of Montana, will man Bad Luck. He is from Dalton, Mass." (Ravalli Republic)
June 22, 1971: "Fire control officer Bob Graham said the old system of fire lookouts has been trimmed down slightly this season because of better detection methods.
The Bitter Root Forest has closed Bad Luck lookout in Magruder.." (Ravalli Republic)
September 4, 1974: "A forest observer in the Magruder area, Jeffrey Ellison, of Hamilton. suffered a severe knee injury in a mishap at the Bad Luck lookout Tuesday afternoon.
Ellison was brought by helicopter to Hamilton and was reported in satisfactory condition Wednesday morning." (Ravalli Republic)
July 9, 1975: "Linda Ambelang, a senior in zoology from the University of Montana, is spending her second summer on Bad Luck lookout. To keep her blood circulating, Linda packs water daily from a spring one-quarter mile downhill.
And once a week, she affords herself the luxury of a bath at the Paradise Guard Station. The price: a grueling three mile uphill trip the next morning, which likely erases the effects of the hard sought after bath." (Ravalli Republic)
