HORSE HEAVEN |
Boise National Forest

January 9, 1932: "A woman who served as lookout at Horse Heaven peak in the Boise national forest in 1921 thinks she would like to try it again. If that can't be arranged she would like to obtain use of a cabin near Swanholm peak for the summer, bringing her husband and small son with her.
The woman is Mrs. Eula Morton Biba, who now lives at Paris, Illinois. Writing to the forest officials in Boise, she says:
'In 1921 I was the lookout there and I have often thought how much I would like to go back. E. Grandjean was the supervisor then, and I stayed on Horse Heaven peak instead of high Swanholm. Would you have any vacancies on any of the lookouts? I would certainly like to have the appointment again...anyway let me know about the cabin.'
Incidentally, applications for lookout jobs are being received by the score, announce Boise forest officials, and the answer is always negative. Hiring of lookouts will not start until later in the season when fire threatens and need for the men arises." (The Idaho Statesman)
